Make a Life-Changing Choice for Both You and a Child

Foster Adoptive Mission (FAM) is a federally-funded community collaborative serving northwestern CT communities. FAM is committed to serving children and youth in the CT foster care system. FAM is comprised of a devoted group of foster and adoptive parents; professionals from child welfare agencies and child-placing agencies; regional business leaders; and individuals from local communities. Collaborative members meet monthly and dedicate their time and resources to finding families for the children and youth in foster care who need foster homes.

Every year, hundreds of abused and neglected children are placed in state custody and will need a safe place to stay. Foster homes do just that. Foster families provide stability, nurturing and love to infants, children, and youth in need. Many of these foster children will eventually become available for adoption. From infants to teens, FAM works with foster families, case workers and agencies to locate the right forever family for every child who needs one.

FAM also provides ongoing support to families while they wait and after licensure. FAM staff members are available to direct families to the services available to them; provide information about resources through our website; offer support groups for families waiting to be licensed; and hold events that celebrate our families' uniqueness and diversity.

Who are the children that FAM places into homes?

Our children come in all colors, shapes and sizes. FAM partners place a large number of children into homes through legal risk adoption and special needs adoption, a much smaller number through infant adoption, but the vast majority of children are waiting for foster homes. Many of these are teenagers, sibling groups, children with special needs, medically complex children and those requiring therapeutic or treatment level foster care.

Open Minds. Open Hearts. Open Homes.

Finding the Right Adults to Care for Foster and Adoptive Children

Foster care and adoption are both rewarding and challenging life choices. By opening your home to a child in need, you are filling a void in that child's life as well as enriching your own. There simply aren't enough foster homes in CT to care for the children who have been exposed to the situations and events that have injured their bodies and their spirits. Our mission is to find patient, responsible, loving adults with the desire and commitment to help these children in need. There is a CT child out there waiting for you. Will you open your home to him or her?

Who is qualified to foster or adopt?

Foster and adoptive parents are a diverse group. Families of all religions, races, cultural backgrounds and sexual orientations are encouraged to apply. We license single parents, couples, and individuals from ages 21 to over 70.

What help is available to foster and adoptive parents?

Foster and adoptive parents receive several forms of support, including trainings, recreational opportunities, access to support groups, as well as both a monetary stipend to cover the expenses incurred by the child and health insurance to cover all of the child's medical and mental health needs. Good foster homes will help these children realize their potential. Won't you please open your home to a waiting CT child?
